Since I didn't have class today until 4pm, I decided to go on a long walk to capture some of the unique birds I've been seeing on my way to class and such. Well, I quickly learned that I do not have neither the patience nor the zoom lens required to get the amazing shots I wanted. However, I did run across a wide variety of dogs, both wild and domestic. I'm not really joking when I say "wild" dogs. There is actually a pretty gigantic population of stray dogs that roam the streets and curl up into little balls and under what little shelter they have when it rains. Sometimes, they follow people in the hopes of getting a little food. It's really heartbreaking but I want to paint a real picture of this place and that is a part of it.
Anyway, so I kind of resigned myself to taking pictures of every dog I found because it was entertaining, and tried to snap of picture of the occasional bird before it flew away. It was still fun and I got to explore new parts of town that I hadn't gotten around to seeing yet. When I was walking back I decided to take a side road that turned into a dead end. However, as I walked closer I heard this really loud rumbling that sounded like a big scary monster. As it turned out, it was apparently the secret gathering for the hugest sea lions I'd ever seen! They were all on the bank of the river sunning themselves and occasionally sparring. Seeing them fight with each other made me realize how important it was that I not disturb them too much...I took a video and will try and figure out a way to get it on the blog because that it the only way you can get a true appreciation for their size and power. I am trying to teach myself how to use iMovie to edit the clips I have into one coherent film piece. We'll see how that goes.
Ok well I finished the clip of the sea lions. If you want to have a look at it, it's in the links section on the upper right hand corner. I recommend selecting to view it in high quality if your internet can handle it.
