Last night's dinner in Kansas was really good. True to American form, the portions were gigantic so now I have a lunch of leftovers to look forward to today. Today right after class I'm studying with my friend Pam in a cafe then heading over to a friend of Jamie's apartment where we are going to have dinner! Yesterday I went shopping in stores rather than artisanal markets for the first time. There is this great retro housewares store, kind of like the Argentine version of Restoration Hardware, where I bought a few water glasses and a wine pitcher that looks like a penguin. I went to that store about a month ago with a real live Argentine and he told me that all the stuff there was exactly like what he grew up with so I feel good about my purchases.

Last night I made the decision that Marco my host brother will get facebook before I leave so that he can stay in contact with me and any of the other students he lives with when they are gone. During my time here I feel like I have gotten to know him pretty well, and in the process realized that despite his loud open nature in reality he is a very private person. I completely understand people who are happy being alone. However, he hadn't even given facebook a chance because he was too intimidated by it and I don't think that is a legitimate excuse to not have one. So, last night in my room I was basically doing everything for him to get the account up and running. Choosing a password proved to be a long drawn out process but eventually we got there. Then there was the profile picture which he wanted to be just perfect, yet when we were taking it on my computer he would always move his head right as it was being taken...Finally I told him I was going to pick one out of the ones he'd already taken and if he wanted to change it he'd have to learn how to do it on his own. Kind of tiring getting that set up, but it was also chance for me to learn more about him and how he reacts to new situations. Despite the complication facebook adds to Marco's life, I think he is happy to have it. He kept coming into my room last night asking me when we were going to add more photos until I finally had to kick him out so I could finish my homework. As soon as he set up his account, there were already 20 people who had requested him as friends, and then about 15 more that we added within a few minutes. At one point he had 3 facebook chats pop up with people wondering how he was and what's he'd been up to. Honestly, even if Marco doesn't use facebook ever again in his life, I'll be glad that I could at least show him what's out there. However, I do hope that I get a response back from him when I send him messages via facebook because I do really want to stay in contact.
