I've had almost two full days with my family and boy have we been busy. We spend a lot of our days walking around town and I've been guiding them around to show them the best parts of Valdivia. Right now they're actually all taking a nap. I think they're a bit worn out after their flight. However, that gives me a few free hours to myself. We just finished a very satisfying lunch at Marcelo's, and oh man has his entire family has been welcoming and generous...I really can't believe it. We had dinner there last night, lunch today, and then will eat another lunch tomorrow at their house. Even though my family can't speak Spanish, we all get along well. I try to translate whenever I can, which makes me feel super smart for the first time since arriving here, but also gets a little exhausting trying to flip back and forth all the time. I am really pleased that my family is getting to know Valdivia in the way that I know it; through lots of walking and spending time with nice people. We only have one day left here before leaving for Buenos Aires, but I think my parents have gotten a pretty accurate view of the quaint little life I lead in Chile. I know that even though I won't see them for nine months after they leave, they will have at least an idea of what I'm up to.
I just added the picture that we took the last night there. Even though we had already eaten lunch at their house, they invited us over for dinner too, which provided a great time to pass out presents for every member of their family. We also passed around some childhood pictures of my and Ryan, and looked and pictures of Regina, Marcelo, and Tomás when they were adorable little kids. Marcelo and I translated some corny jokes that our families wanted to share with everyone and I really felt like our two families felt really comfortable with each other even though they didn't all speak the same language.
