I started off the morning with a firm boot in the right direction fitness wise. A trainer at my gym noticed that I obviously had no idea what I was doing in the weightlifting area and offered to make me up a three day routine. I did one of them today with him and OW my legs hurt. It was good though, I really needed it and I ate my favorite desert today without a moment of guilt. Last night I ended up going to two bbqs because it is a shockingly popular past time here. The first was at Marcelo's house, which of course was fun since it is practically my second home. I met one of Marcelo's friends who cracked me up because he is a total nerd and knows it, and has a great sense of humor. Picture this, he's super tall, blond wavy/frizzy hair down to his waist, blue eyes, husky build, and 100% Chilean. He can understand English better than I know Spanish and speaks German too. I would even say that he has a better command English obscenities than I do...He gave me crap the whole night about pronouncing "ketchup" like a gringo. Here it is "keht choop"rather than "kachup." I had a great time there, and I would have stayed longer but I promised my friend Renee that I would return her favor and play wingman for a night. The party ended up being a bbq with the rugby team for the university. I had some good conversation with people and got to learn some different dance styles native to different parts of Chile. It seems like Chileans are so much more aware of their cultural history. For instance, I don't think most people my age know much about the swing dance or square dance even though they are part of American culture. I was talking to this guy last night and he was telling me about how much he loved to dance and was listing off all of his favorites. He was also describing the salsa to me, and how when he dances it his heart speeds up and he feels a connection to the woman through the dance. That's the passion that I love about Latino cultures and wish that I could be more of a part of without feeling overly aware of my arms and legs. Today I studied in the park with two of my friends and we soaked up the sun a little. We sat by a beautiful lake with croaking frogs and all that jazz. I would say that I had another pleasant weekend, and now I am going to attempt being productive before going you-know-where to see you-know-who...
