I find it quite amusing that even though my mom and I are both trying to get healthy and on a "diet" of sorts, the two of us managed to finish off Marcelo's cake in 3 days...Then today when we were out shopping, my mom asked me if I had ever eaten "cruditos" a classic Valdivian specialty. When I said that I hadn't she immediately insisted that we pop into a cafe and order a few. A crudo is essentially raw ground beef atop a slice of bread with minced onions. Sounds a little gross, right? Well, it actually wasn't even though raw ground beef will never look appetizing to me...We got home stuffed, and now I'm watching the Daily Show global edition and am finding that it's really not that funny, go figure...I think Obama is harder to make fun of since he's not always making statements that are self-contained jokes. Steve Martin is the guest though and now I really want to read his book Born Standing Up! Apparently Steve studied philosophy in college which just goes to show you that the people with the best sense of humor are some of the smartest ones out there. Now that it's over I'm about head over to an asadito (little casual bbq) at Marcelo's house. To be honest I'm not really hungry at the moment due to the raw ground beef I consumed just hours earlier, but I'm excited to go all the same. Lot's of food in my life; I can't seem to avoid it because it is inextricably linked with spending time with people I care about. Oh well, there are certainly worse predicaments to be in than getting offered too much food from nice people all the time.
