GOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!

My mom made Mote a few days ago, a traditional Chilean specialty that I absolutely adore...Even when I am stuffed to the gills after lunch I can never turn down a cup of Mote when the opportunity presents itself. I've actually talked about Mote before, but I felt like this homemade version deserved its own picture because it's waaay better than the stuff you can find on the street. I've already made plans to learn how to make it so that I can bring the tradition back with me to the US!
I just got back from watching a soccer match between Chile and Argentina and to everyone's surprise, Chile won! Argentina is one of the best teams in South America so it was a pretty big upset that I'm sure people will be talking about for a while. About 7 of us went over to someone's house to watch is because she has a really nice TV. Being the only gringo representative there I obviously did not understand what everyone was saying, especially when they were talking over each other and getting really excited. Even so, I'd get the gist of what was going on and yell out some chant whenever they wanted me to. I figure the faster I get used to being around all Spanish speakers the better off I'll be. Even though I'm a gringo and am therefore totally clueless right now, I think the Chileans appreciate my efforts to learn and try and talk like they do...Apparently there are a few insults that involve accusing a Chilean of acting like a gringo, which they like to through out there when I'm around, but I like it because it gives me a chance to fire back reclaim my identity every once now and again.
