About 3 or 4 evenings a week my host parents head out to the grocery store to stock up on fruits, veggies and fresh bread. Tonight, I decided to take a break from my online socializing and asked if I could come. Going out and running errands with them made me realize how we have essentially become a family. My mom is completely responsible for all of the massive lunches prepared every day when I come home from school. I could tell as we passed through the sliding doors of Unico that we had entered her territory...The look on her face as she strode through the produce section and stared down vegetables was unforgettable and made me smile to myself. I brought my camera and sneakily took pictures of my parents in action without them knowing...I think. I couldn't help it, I wanted to share more about what kind of people they are and the role they play in my life! I was able to learn a few new vocabulary words like cabbage, which may or may not come in handy at some point. On our way home we took a little detour to see a really nice hotel that hopefully my family and I will get to stay in when they come to visit for Christmas. After that, it was a quick look at what used to be the old jail and then back home. That simple outing made me really happy for some reason. I think it was because going to the grocery store with my parents is something that I would do back in the US, and the fact that I was doing it here and that it felt natural is a great sign.
