Universidad Austral

Ow. I just had my first full day of classes and I have a headache. Each class is an hour and a half long and I had three today. That means 4.5 hours of Spanish, which may not sound like much, but it is...trust me. In Chilean schools, it's rude to stretch, yawn, or eat in class, which made it even harder for me to make myself comfortable. But, having said all that I can already tell that I'm going to learn SO much in the next few months. Plus, the professors are all extrememly patient with us. I'm taking 2 Spanish grammer/composition type classes, Latin American literature, and a Chilean culture seminar. All exchange students in my program never have class on Friday so that we are free to travel during the 3 day weekends if we want. I learned an interesting verb in school today: "hacer zaping." It literally translates to "to make zapping," and means to change tv channels with a remote, go figure. Luckily, making my way to and from school is easy since I live just a few blocks away. The hardest part is navigating through the gigantic puddles and mud pits.

Right now I'm watching the National Geographic Channel. It's about "las medusas" aka jellyfish. They are pretty amazing creatures...Telivision has been a great way for me to learn. I've been watching futbol, cooking shows, the news, etc. Writing in English has gotten harder, which must mean that my Spanish is improving...right? Even though I get at least 10 hours of sleep regularaly it still doesn't feel like enough. Ooooh, a futbol match between Uruguay and Paraguay is on now so I think I'll watch that for a while...Hasta luego!
