I'm not sure if I've mentioned this, but Valdivia is known for rain. Luckily, I'm used to this sort of thing and not letting that stop me from exploring the city and orienting myself. My host mom thinks I'm a little crazy every time I tell her I'm going outside, but I always come back with cool photos and a better sense of direction. During my little walks I've discovered a few things about Chile...
1. When the green light is blinking at the cross walk, do NOT attempt to cross the street. It turns red and cars blaze through about .5 seconds later.
2. In relation to the first point, the cars to not really slow down or even notice that people are trying to cross...
3. BYOTP. That stands for bring your own toilet paper...In the public bathrooms are usually devoid of tp because it inevitably gets stolen. Who knew?
4. When you are paying for things you go to one salesperson to ring up the total of your purchase and give you a receipt. Then, you take the receipt and walk over to another counter to actually pay. It is there that the first salesperson gives you the bag and you're free to go. It was a little confusing this morning, but I think I've got it figured out now.
5. When I go to the mall super early and no one else is there the wifi works way better! Pics are hopefully coming within the hour : )

Haha! I loved the part when you explained what you've learned so far! I can totally picture you being forced to sprint across the street to avoid unexpected traffic.
I'm so excited to see more pictures! For some reason I'm having a hard time picturing what Chile looks like. And include some of your host family!
p.s. It's saying that my last comment was removed "by the author" which is true, but only because I noticed a typo as soon as I posted.
I completely empathize with your experiences so far. And let me just say that BYOTP is much better than some options I encountered in England, like wax paper! What were they thinking? Very cool blog.
.5 seconds later?
man katelyn! that sounds dangerous
no you didn't mention that it rains a lot
interesting to know what you learned!
