I think I hurt my foot when I was walking around yesterday, which made today a little "fome" (lame...literally...) as the Chileans would say. However, Despite staying in the house for the large part of the day, I still feel like I had a entertaining time. Compared to my house last year, this house feels like a social gathering. Sometimes we have six or seven people gathered around the table. I am completely immersed by the language, and I can already tell that I will improve quite a bit throughout the semester. Speaking of my previous host family, I stopped by their house this afternoon to fulfill the promise that I made to my host mom last year when I said that I would come back to visit her. She was home, but told me through the speaker phone that she was with family members and couldn't receive me and that I should call back to arrange a time. I actually lost my old cell phone and therefore her number in Argentina, and now she doesn't have mine, so calling is not really an option. As far as I am concerned, I did what I said I would do, and at this point have no intention of trying to contact her further. It was a rather strange environment to live in, and the only reason I would willingly expose myself to it again would be to keep my promise. But, since that's already taken care of, I can come away from the experience with a clean conscience and more time to hang out with my current family, which is a much better place to be. My host mom and I were carefully navigating around the living room today trying to kill a handful of the pesky flies that are terrorizing us at the dinner table. The intent look on her face as she quietly sneaks up on the unsuspecting insects just cracks me up. I think between the two of us we killed 9. Plus, I just killed one whilst writing this blog entry so that makes a grand total of 10! However, tomorrow is another day, and the battle will undoubtedly continue with those little buggers...Ah another activity I have taken to as of late is wandering around looking for blackberries. It's been so long since I've had all this time that I don't really know what to do with myself, but at the very least its interesting to see what I come up with. I found the basic bread recipe that I am going to test out tomorrow. Looks pretty straightforward so we shall see how it turns out.
PS. Random Fact: In Argentina Popeye is pronounced Poh-pay-shjay...In Buenos Aires I tired to order some fresh squeezed juice with a whole bunch of spinach in it and quickly learned the new vocabulary word.
