Oh my gosh, two days in a row that I'm able to write in my blog! Yesterday I had a pleasant afternoon with Tomas. I decided to stop by the house for a bit and took the opportunity to practice my wood chopping skills out in the backyard. Practically all the houses in Chile are heated with fire, which means that chopping wood is a daily, mundane activity for the Chileans. However, I am not Chilean...which means that I had a blast trying to learn how to make firewood for the family. I'll admit I was slow and not nearly as effective as Tomas, but I explained to him that at least he could just sit back and laugh instead of having to do the physical labor. After that, Tomas invited me to study with him, since we both had school stuff to think about during the afternoon. After about 30 min Regina came in and immediately begged me to help her with her English homework, so I quickly agreed to help and was able to remind her that I am smart in at least one language, even though it may not be Spanish =) After dinner at their house, I met up with my Pedro while he ate some pizza. AlexAnn met up with us about an hour later and we all just chatted until they closed the store and kicked us out around 12am. I still hadn't exactly studied for my history test so I just woke up extra early and went over my notes while AlexAnn and my host mom made bread. It was really cool for me to be able to share my host family with her, since she is always sharing her family with me. Our families are so different, and for that reason I think it is really cool to get two completely different yet equally loving perspectives of what makes a family in Chile.
